A LESS TIRING GORILLA SAFARI IN VOLCANOES RWANDA
The
park is home to over 300 mountain Gorillas which are part of the greater
Virunga conservation area and there are 10 families of them that have been
habituated for trekking and these can can be found within the park’s boundaries
most of the time. The park boasts of the largest number of habituated mountain Gorilla
families in the world over. Keep in mind that these Gorillas may not mind about
the borders but this not likely in case of volcanoes.
The
game park covers an area of about 160 sq km of intertwined rain and bamboo
forests ranging at an altitude from 2,400 to 4,500 meters above sea level. The
main activity in the park is Gorilla Tracking Safaris
and the experience is well set up with well experienced professional guides
ready to fulfill your expectations of a Gorilla Safari in
Rwanda.
In
terms of getting to the game park, Volcanoes
National Park is very close to Kigali International Airport and
it can only take tourists 2 & ½ hours making it quick and faster on tarmac
roads. Many tourists prefer this short time and distance to the Gorilla trekking
site which make a Rwanda Gorilla Safari come up first for time bound travelers
compared to a Uganda
Gorilla Safari or Congo Gorilla Safaris for the low
land Mountain Gorilla safaris.
Landscapes and scenery in Rwanda
Talking
of scenic terrain and landscapes, Rwanda has a different terrain renowned as a
land of a thousand hills by most, the terrain is quite open but forested and
mountainous and with large tracts of bamboo forests, in this case, a Gorilla
safari tour in Volcanoes Rwanda is not that difficult. The
forest offers a better opportunity to easily see and photograph these Gorillas
clearly because its vegetation is not thick. However, it’s never easy to climb
through the forests and one needs to be a little physically fit to take up the
challenge.
The
route from Kigali City to Volcanoes is not that picturesque and stunning
therefore travelers looking forward to a distinctive rural African beauty may
not get enough of it except for those interested in Gorilla trekking in
particular. Travelers who wish to trek Gorillas and at the same time encounter
a variety of other wildlife such as the popular African safari Big - five
mammals will have to opt for a Uganda Safari.
In
terms of altitude, Volcanoes National Park is at a higher level with up to
4,500 meters above sea level and visitors looking for higher altitudes in Rwanda
is the place to enjoy far reaching stunning views of the whole Virunga region
from one stand point.
Permits and Ease of Use: In
Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, Gorilla trekking permits prices were doubled
by the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) from $750 to $1500 Per person for one
hour with the Gorillas in starting May 8, 2017. Rwanda Development Board is the
body that issues Rwanda Gorilla permits but there are other local travel agents
and tour operators who sell permits. Tourists are advised to book their permits
in advance before the actual trekking day. And visitors flying in, permits can
be processed after arrival at Kigali International Airport.
